Marianne E. DeVries, CPA, Managing Partner is responsible for the technical performance on all accounting and auditing done by our firm. She has been in public accounting for over 20 years. Her experience in public practice includes a significant number of audits, reviews and compilations for nonprofit entities, financial institutions, service and retail companies as well as litigation support services and tax returns. In 1995, she created the Non-Profit Organizations’ – Financial Administrators’ Network (NPO-FAN) group which holds quarterly luncheons for educational and networking benefits for accounting personnel in nonprofit organizations throughout Southern Arizona. In 2004 she established the NPO-FAN Phoenix Chapter. In 2003, she was appointed to the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants’ NPO Expert Panel/Task Force to revise the Audit Guide for nonprofit organizations. In July 2004, Governor Napolitano appointed Mari to the Arizona State Board of Accountancy (ASBA) serving as President from 2007-2008. ASBA is responsible for licensing and regulating CPAs in Arizona. After having served seven years on the Board’s Accounting and Auditing Standards Committee and three years as an Investigative Reviewer for the Board; Ms. DeVries is regularly asked to speak both locally and nationally on a variety of topics affecting nonprofit organizations. Ms. DeVries joined the AICPA’s Board of Examiners Content Committee and Audit Sub-committee in 2008 and in 2011 was appointed as Chair of the Content Committee and member of the Executive Committee of the Board of Examiners. Mari and her former partner, the late John Girvin, founded the firm in June 1996.
Michael J. DeVries, CPA, Tax Advisory Partner is responsible for our firm’s tax practice. Mike has over 25 years of experience in taxes and accounting. He was a partner in a CPA firm in Texas for 15 years. Mike joined DeVries CPAs in July 2007.
Jennifer Phillips, CPA, CFE, is our Audit Partner with extensive expertise in audits of nonprofit organizations and performance of Single Audits in accordance with Office of Management and Budget Circular A-133. Ms. Phillips has over 12 years of experience in accounting and auditing. Ms. Phillips’ expertise is in audits of nonprofits, government organizations, charter schools, and the performance of Single Audits in accordance with Office of Management and Budget Circular A-133. In May 2004, she obtained the Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) designation from the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. In June 2008, she was selected by the Arizona State Board of Accountancy to serve on their Accounting and Auditing Standards Committee. She was promoted to partner in July 2007.
